Adopting responsibly
- Meet the pet first and ask about vaccinations, deworming and any health issues.
- Ask whether they're sterilised, or plan to get it done.
- Make sure your home, family and landlord are ready for a pet.
- Adoption is a long-term commitment: think 10–15 years for dogs and cats.
Avoid pet scams
- Never pay "transport", "vaccination" or "booking" fees in advance to someone you haven't met.
- Be wary of pedigree pets offered for free with a request to ship them.
- Visit in person or video-call to see the pet with its owner.
